Technical Motorization Information

Customized window treatment motorization brings function and home décor together in a unique way.

Motorized window coverings provide the functional benefits of:

  • Timed privacy
  • Security
  • Interior temperature
  • Light control
  • Remote location control

Hunter Douglas blinds and shades, can be installed to operate with a stand-alone style keypad or hand-held remote control. More advanced systems could include integration with a home automation system.

This integrated style of home automation or “Smart Home” allows for multiple use of one controller.

The user can operate many common household items such as home theatre audio/visual equipment, lighting, heat and air systems, security systems, exterior awnings etc.

To ensure professional set-up and installation of your automated window covering, we utilize industry leading technology and products:

Box Reader Technology

This box is state of the art and it does this, this and this!

Remote Eye Sensor

The remote eye sensor allows for wireless signals to travel through to the blinds

Platinum App Technology

This technology is compatible with your IOS product and allows for full customization of your window covering via your device.

    Hard-wired option:

A practical advantage of having battery-less motorized window treatment is there are no batteries to change. A window treatment that doesn’t have a wire hanging out from the head rail is preferable aesthetically, as there are no wires to be hidden in the walls. Additionally, a hard-wired system has a convenience advantage as it can communicate with a home automation system. The customer can control the system anytime of day from anywhere in the world.

For most of us, our home is our biggest single life time investment. A hard-wired window treatment option provides 24 hour a day control of perceived occupancy. It also provides energy efficiency within the home; this option provides peace of mind and puts you in greater control of your investment.

  Hard Wired Technical Information:
• Motors include 115V AC (alternating current) and 12V - 24V DC (direct current). DC motors require an additional power supply for operation.
• All AC wiring can only be done by a certified electrician. Our team can provide an electrician or we can work with an on-site electrician if desired.
• The type of motor used will depend on product choice, system configuration and end-use.
• Depending on product choice, motor amperage draws range between 1.25 and 2 amps. It’s best to have them on there own circuit breakers.
• Motor controls or the “brains” of your motor include RP (Remotely Programmable) or RQ (Remotely Queryable).
• The choice of motor control depends on whether you want “Smart Home” integration with a home automation system or a stand-alone system that only controls your window treatments.
• Home automation integration can include dry contact, z-wave, RS-232, RQ bridge and R2D7 communication methods.
• Input devices include wired-in or wireless wall key-pads and switches, hand held remotes or smart-phones.
• Platinum Gateway kits are available to sync up with a smart-home set-up that uses either Apple or Android devices to control the shades.
• Depending on the set-up, RF (remote frequency) frequencies can range from 2.4GHz to 433MHz bandwidth and often utilize module radio receivers. IR (infrared frequency) direct line-of-site frequencies are typically 40kHz.

Disclaimer: information on this page is for general knowledge regarding hard-wire window treatment motorization.  Whenever a system like this is considered for installation, wiring must be done by a certified Electrician and must conform to local building codes.
